Researchers at the institution determined how long humans would be able to fend for themselves before falling victim to grisly, flesh-eating zombies.
Those carrying out the study used a formula to determine how long it would take for even the bravest, sturdiest humans to succumb to their zombie foes — and while it may feel like a lowball, trust us, it’s science.
In just 100 days, the study says, around 100 humans would remain. Maybe these are the Ricks and Michonnes of the world. Nevertheless, they’d be quite outnumbered, to say the least.
After six months hypothetically elapsed, the stragglers — like our beloved group from “The Walking Dead” — would die or turn into zombies. The last man or woman on earth would be vanquished, leaving just our equally beloved “footnotes of history,” in texts that would fail to draw a single reader.
Embedded in the new research, scientists warn that both natural birth and death rates during the “apocalypse” are not taken into consideration. Thus, the rate of extinction, factoring in our customary illnesses and accidents, etc., might be a lot higher than indicated.
The pertinent information comes from a research paper entitled “A Zombie Epidemic,” and warns that the natural death rate is not considered since it would be “negligible” compared to the rapid rate of infection over 100 days.
